ALIEN LEGION is a military science fiction series of comic book series begun in 1984 by creators Carl Potts, Alan Zelenetz, and Frank Cirocco for Marvel's Epic imprint. A 20-issue series from 1984-1987 was followed by an 18-issue series from 1987-1990 with a graphic novel in 1986. There was a series of one-shots and short limited series in the early 90s, but a revival by Dark Horse in 2009 was not realized by the publisher. Titan published the planned limited series in 2014. The creators based the concept on the French Foreign Legion, but with aliens. The description for Dark Horse's first omnibus edition describes the story construct nicely: "Footsloggers and soldiers of fortune, priests, poets, killers, and cads--they fight for a future Galarchy, for cash, for a cause, for the thrill of adventure. Culled from the forgotten and unwanted of three galaxies, they are trained to be the most elite, and expendable, of fighting forces. Sometimes peacekeepers, sometimes shock troops, the Legion is sent into the Galarchy's most desperate internal and external conflicts. Legionnaires live rough and they die hard, tough as tungsten and loyal to the dirty end."
