The RE-IMAGINED relaunch of PLANET OF THE APES (POTA) is based on 20th Century Fox's 2011 RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES franchise reboot film and its two sequels, DAWN OF... and WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES. (The 2011 film was a second reboot attempt, as the 2001 stand-alone film failed to ignite a lasting franchise.) Boom! Studios published a one-shot prequel to the first re-imagined film, RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, in 2011 as a digital only comic, but they began publishing print comic books that tie-in to the re-imagined POTA relaunch in 2014 with a one-shot--then a mini-series--that bridged the gap between the first and second film. (Boom! themselves and other publishers had previously published POTA comic book series that took place in and around the continuity of the original 1968 film franchise.)
