The post-Crisis/pre-New 52 Superman died in SUPERMAN [1987] #75, and the issue's iconic cover has become the subject of subsequent homage. The simple cover depicts a stick jutting from a pile of rubble with Superman's tattered cape attached and streaming in the wind as if it was an unintended or makeshift grave marker. Homage variations include other recognizable costume pieces or accessories for the deceased/missing character and swords or other implements in place of the stick. The wind seems to always be blowing from left-to-right.
