The DC Animated Universe (DCAU) (aka Timmverse) is a shared universe of DC properties centered on a group of animated television shows, but it's continuity includes direct-to-video feature films and shorts, comic books, video games and other multimedia adaptations, although the canonicity of every one of these parts is not universally accepted. The DCAU began with BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES in 1992 and ended for a short time in 2006 after JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED, but returned in 2017 with BATMAN AND HARLEY QUINN. Several original characters, created in the DCAU, were later introduced into the main DC Universe through retroactive continuity (retcon) changes. The most famous of these characters is Harley Quinn, but Batman Beyond has also attempted integration into the DC Universe proper.
