Originally published across the three ongoing Spider-Man titles of the time in 1987, KRAVEN'S LAST HUNT is a 6-part cross-over storyline about the final meeting between Kraven and Spider-Man that received overwhelmingly positive critical reactions and consistently appears on lists of the best Spider-Man stories of all time. When Kraven hunts down Spider-Man and seemingly kills and buries him, Kraven assumes the mantle of Spider-Man and begins brutalizing criminals, culminating in the capture of Vermin. Spider-Man was only tranquilized, however, and digs his way out of his grave to a thrilling confrontation with Kraven and Vermin. There have been sequels to the original tale, as well as "What If?" stories and spoofs.
