The NEW BUFFYVERSE is the 2019 relaunch of the original Buffyverse, beginning with Boom! Studios' relaunch of the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER comic book series. The original Buffyverse grew out of the 1992 film, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, into a multi-media franchise. When television episodes were discontinued, Dark Horse published canon continuations in comic book form. When Disney acquired Fox, Dark Horse lost the license for Buffy and Firefly comics, which Boom! Studios picked up. A new television show is planned, but its placement in Buffyverse canon--whether is it a spin-off of the original Buffyverse or whether it is in its own or the New Buffyverse continuity--is not solidified as of early 2019. Boom! Studios added a surprise second comic book title, ANGEL, to the NEW BUFFYVERSE in May 2019.
