TROLLS [DREAMWORKS] was a 2016 computer-animated film based on the original Troll dolls from the United States' toy fad of the early 1960s. The iconic toys are small, plastic dolls with wild, up-combed hair. The dolls made a slight resurgence in popularity in the US from the 1970s through the 1990s, with several companies making knock-offs of the original Danish company's creation. Dreamworks bought the Troll brand outright from the Dam Company in 2013. Troll dolls have made cameo appearances in Pixar's TOY STORY film series, as well as Marvel's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY film. Dreamworks' 2016 film is a musical comedy in which the happy, perpetually singing Trolls must ward off their mortal enemies, the Bergen--miserable creatures who can only feel happy after eating a Troll.
