In the DC Universe, BATWOMAN (KATE KANE) is a wealthy heiress who--like Batman--uses her resources to fight crime as a costumed vigilante also in Gotham City. The character's first appearance (without costume) was in the weekly series 52 [2006] #7 and as the costumed Batwoman in 52 [2006] #11. The character is possibly the highest-profile gay superhero in DC's publishing stable. She has had several self-titled series of her own, and she has been the lead character in limited runs of DETECTIVE COMICS as well. Additionally, the character has her own animated film and--after minor appearances in the Arrowverse--earned her own television series set in the Arrowverse. (An earlier, unrelated version of Batwoman (Kathy Kane) appeared primarily in Silver Age Batman comics, but was replaced as Batman's female counterpart in the mid-1960s by Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) and--like all classic characters from that era--has since had to navigate the 'infinite crises' of DC's Multiverse with off-and-on success.)
