DC BLACK LABEL PRESTIGE FORMAT GRAPHIC NOVEL MINI-SERIES sprang from the short-lived imprint from DC from 2018-2019 (DC BLACK LABEL) that gives premier talent the opportunity to expand on the DC canon of iconic super-heroes with unique, standalone stories that exist outside DC Universe continuity and tell edgier and more provocative content. The line kicked off with BATMAN: DAMNED to some controversy over its explicit content. DC continued to publish stories in its 8.5 in. x 10.875 in. softcover format even after the January 2020 brand consolidation under which DC BLACK LABEL included not only these prestige format graphic novels, but also any material for readers of 17+ years old. The December 2019 DC Previews began calling this format PRESTIGE PLUS.
