CATALYST PRIME INCIDENTALS #1

A fourth title is added to Lion Forge’s Catalyst Prime Universe. This one feels a lot like Valiant’s Harbinger. Could be interesting. “One Year after The Event that transformed a small portion of the world’s population into superhumans, billionaire Bo Vincent Chen has gathered his team of enhanced operatives for secret missions. Their latest task: saving the life of the extraordinary teenager called Seven. The world’s first mysterious superteam of the Catalyst Prime Universe is revealed in this new series, but what secrets are they all hiding?”

GHOST MONEY #1

Interesting…”Homeland meets Mr. Robot in this international political thriller!” Tall order to fill. The sample graphics look strikingly good. Fans of those television shows will likely enjoy. “At the end of the year 2020, a team of military veterans are out to uncover a secret fortune built from the ashes of 9/11 so vast that it could disrupt the entire global economy. Their primary target is a beautiful young billionaire who crosses time zones with disconcerting ease.”

HERCULES WRATH OF THE HEAVENS [2017] #1

A very cool-looking science fiction retelling of the Greek legend of Hercules. The interior sample pages look gorgeous. A comic book legend himself, Walter Simonson, does the main cover. “AS WAR RAGES ACROSS THE GALACTIC FRONTIER, ONE HALF-HUMAN, HALF-GOD SUPER-SOLDIER FACES HIS GREATEST ENEMY – HIS OWN DEMONS – IN A BID FOR TRUTH AND REDEMPTION. TITAN COMICS PRESENTS THIS STUNNINGLY ILLUSTRATED, SCIENCE FICTION RETELLING OF THE LEGEND OF HERCULES BY MULTI AWARD-WINNING WRITER, JEAN-DAVID MORVAN (WOLVERINE: SAUDADE). WITH ORIGINAL COVER ART BY COMICS LEGENDS WALTER SIMONSON AND LAURA MARTIN.”

LARKS KILLER #1

Bill Willingham, who started his career as a staff artist for TSR way back in the day, goes back to those roots with this fantasy tale of swords, dragons and magic. “Lark is a runaway living rough on the streets of LA, when suddenly she’s transported to an alien world of swords, dragons and magic, where everyone wants her dead. And she likely won’t live long enough to find out why. Covers by Jen Bartel, Mark Dos Santos, Paulina Ganucheau, and Kari Lynn Smith.”

STAR WARS DOCTOR APHRA ANNUAL #1

Exciting! The origin of the Wookie bounty hunter, Black Krrsantan! “Doctor Aphra has a troubled past full of parental drama and war. But what about her Wookiee shadow, Black Krrsantan? Find out just how this Wookiee warrior is as frightening as they say…and then some. Rated T”

HI-FI FIGHT CLUB #1

The first rule of Fight Club is… Wait, this isn’t that club. It’s a different one. One where indie record store teens fight. It could possibly be cooler. “Film and TV director Carly Usdin (Suicide Kale, RuPaul’s Drag Race) teams up with breakout artist Nina Vakueva for a new series that’s music to our ears. New Jersey, 1998. Chris has just started the teen dream job: working at Vinyl Mayhem, the local record store. She’s prepared to deal with anything-misogynistic metalheads, grunge wannabes, even a crush on her wicked cute co-worker, Maggie. But when Rory Gory, the staff’s favorite singer, mysteriously vanishes the night before her band’s show in town, Chris finds out her co-workers are doing more than just […]

STAR WARS JEDI REPUBLIC MACE WINDU #1

Mace Windu gets his own limited series in the Star Wars new canon! It’s true…Jedi can fall from great heights and survive! Just kidding. This series takes place during the Clone Wars. But afterwards there is still a new hope…Jedi can fall from great heights and survive…even without hands! “For over a thousand generations, the Jedi have been the peacekeepers of the galaxy…but now, at the dawn of the Clone Wars, they find themselves in a new role: generals in the Army of the Republic. As Mace Windu, one of the Jedi’s greatest warriors, leads a small unit of Jedi into battle shortly after the war begins, the Jedi must make peace with their new role, or be lost to […]

MECH CADET YU #1

This looks super cool. I loved The Iron Giant movie. Same concept from the talented team of Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa. I only wish it was an ongoing instead of a mini. “Once a year, giant robots from outer space come to Earth and bond with young cadets from the elite Sky Corps Academy to defend the world from the terrifying aliens known as the Sharg. It’s a great honor to be chosen, but this year…well, the wrong kid was picked. Greg Pak (Totally Awesome Hulk) and Takeshi Miyazawa (Ms. Marvel) team up for an action-packed adventure perfect for fans of Amadeus Cho and Pacific Rim.”

DOCTOR WHO LOST DIMENSION ALPHA #1

This is very exciting if you’re looking for an entry point for modern Doctor Who comics. This eight-part story arc will cross over among the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Doctors with additional specials and a pair of bookend one-shots. Guaranteed to be collected into a trade paperback. “THE VOID HAS ALWAYS EXISTED: ‘NO PLACE. THE SILENT REALM. THE LOST DIMENSION.’ THE ENDLESS, EMPTY SPACE BETWEEN UNIVERSES. BUT THE VOID IS NO LONGER EMPTY. A SPARK HAS BEEN LIT IN THE EMPTINESS – A SPARK NOW GROWN INTO AN ENTITY POWERFUL ENOUGH TO SHATTER CREATION. THE VOID IS HUNGRY. AND IT IS ALREADY HERE. THIS IS A THREAT BIGGER THAN US. IT’S MORE THAN ONE DOCTOR CAN HANDLE – AND […]

GALAKTIKON #1

Billed as a “high stakes intergalactic extreme rock comic.” Eric Powell has had a few stealthy hits recently. This one is probably worth a look. “From Brendon Small, the man who brought you Dethklok and Metalocalypse, comes a high stakes intergalactic extreme rock comic. Based on his album, Galaktikon, we follow Triton, intergalactic hero of the universe, who will face the ultimate outer space struggle: getting over his divorce.”
