Spiral Comics June 2018 Newsletter

by Glenn Snow | June 16th, 2018

WELCOME Hello, comic fans! As always, reports of the demise of the comic book industry were premature. Even more cool, new series are being offered for the first time this month–mainstream and alternative options galore. The Fantastic Four are back after a 2+ year hiatus with Dan Slott at the writing helm, fresh off an amazing finish with Amazing Spider-Man. Marvel says “because you demanded it…,” but I was always just politely suggesting it. Demanding one of your favorite comics back is just rude. As always, let us know if there is something we can track down for you…we try to cater to regular, normal newbies…crazy, intense collectors…and everyone in between (except Syndrome, because if everyone collects comics then no […]

FRIENDO [2018] #1

Yet another excellent-looking offering from Vault Comics! Check it out! “Leo wasn’t allowed toys as a kid, but now that he’s all grown up he’s going to take yours. He used to play by the rules, but then governments and corporations set fire to the rules and still expected him to behave. He probably would have if it hadn’t been for his new friend Jerry. See, Jerry isn’t human; he’s a personalised marketing VR… and he’s malfunctioning. Unhinged ultraviolence from Alex Paknadel (Arcadia) and Martin Simmonds (Punks Not Dead).” Buy It Now

BATMAN: KINGS OF FEAR [2018] #1

Here’s a new Batman mini-series that looks like it’ll give the Scarecrow some more clout in Batman’s rogue gallery. “Legendary artist Kelley Jones makes his triumphant return to the Dark Knight in this explosive miniseries written by former BATMAN editor Scott Peterson. Batman’s been overseeing Gotham City for years now and isn’t sure how much of a difference he’s making. Doubt, fear and insecurity are starting to take over. And as all of those negative feelings set in the Scarecrow orchestrates a riot at Arkham Asylum to give the Dark Knight one of his greatest challenges yet. This six-issue miniseries will see the Scarecrow in a horrifying new way that you’ll have to read to believe.” Buy It Now Interested […]

PREDATOR: HUNTERS II [2018] #1

Sweet! A new Predator mini-series from Dark Horse. This one summons nostalgic remembrances of the early, exciting days of the franchise. “From the islands of the South Pacific to the mountains of Afghanistan, the Hunters go wherever the Predators appear-even it’s in a warzone and into conflict with a mysterious government group hunting the same prey. Despite the casualties suffered during their fist mission, the Predator Hunters are on the prowl again. ‘A true testament to the savagery of the Predator franchise, this series just doesn’t quit…’-Infinite Earths.” Buy It Now Related shopping tags: PREDATOR FRANCHISE

RAID [2018] #1

Awesome-looking martial arts mini-series from Titan! I’m continually impressed by Titan’s ceaseless string of quality, short works. “Taking place during the events of the second movie – the Raid movie’s main character Rama is trapped in prison and he has to protect an undercover cop… as well as himself… Meanwhile, Jakarta crime boss Bejo is causing havoc in the outside world as he strives to gain more and more power – and he is ably assisted by two familiar faces: Hammer Girl and Baseball Bat Man…” Buy It Now Related shopping tags: MARTIAL ARTS

Robots versus princesses. Three words say it all. Enjoy. “The comic event of the year has arrived. When plucky Princess Zara stumbles upon the Decimator defector Wheeler, she sets in motion events that will pit the spritely cleverness of fairy tale princesses against the raw power of giant robots. The dream match you never thought you’d see begins here. Don’t miss it.” Buy It Now

BATMAN AND THE JUSTICE LEAGUE MANGA [2018-DIG] VOL 01

This is a super cool-looking manga-style Batman/Justice League story. “From mangaka Shiori Teshirogi (Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas) comes a new series starring Batman and the Justice League. Currently being serialized in the monthly Japanese anthology Red, the story focuses on a young boy who comes to Gotham City from Japan. He’s trying to solve the mystery of what happened to his scientist parents after their disappearance following a factory explosion a year earlier. As it turns out, the factory was owned by Lex Luthor, who has now teamed with The Joker. Together, they plan on using the research of the boy’s parents to tap into a mystical, all-powerful, worldwide energy source. But for what purpose? It’s a bigger challenge […]
