WELCOME Hello, again, from Spiral Comics. This month, we’re still excited about Marvel Legacy rolling on. Even more titles are reverting to their legacy numbering, but we also get a few one-shots: DARKHAWK #51, NOT BRAND ECHH #14, POWER PACK #63, MASTER OF KUNG FU #126, and SILVER SABLE AND THE WILD PACK #36. Before I read the fine print and realized these were just one-shots, I fully believed Marvel was launching new, ongoing series for these legacy titles. And that’s the exciting thing about Marvel Legacy. To be clear–I don’t think they’ll be doing this, but Marvel could offer five one-shots connecting to legacy titles every month for years and not run out of series for the stunt. That […]

EVOLUTION [2017] #1

This is one of my favorite sub-genres of science fiction–the sweeping metamorphosis of humanity. This kind of plot cannot sustain a story alone, however. It needs compelling characters to really engage with readers. We’ll see…(fingers crossed). “Human evolution has taken millions of years to get to this stage. But next week, we become something new. Around the world, humanity is undergoing rapid and unpredictable changes, and only three individuals seem to notice that their world is being reborn. But what can they do about it? Skybound unites writers JAMES ASMUS, JOSEPH KEATINGE, CHRISTOPHER SEBELA and JOSHUA WILLIAMSON and artists JOE INFURNARI and JORDAN BOYD to create a new global phenomenon in this oversized debut issue.” Buy It Now Related shopping […]

BATTLE ANGEL ALITA DELUXE EDITION VOL 01

The original cyberpunk action classic from 1990 returns in hardcover format. James Cameron’s live-action film adaptation is scheduled for release next year, Jul 2018. Guaranteed to rock. “After more than a decade out of print, the original cyberpunk action classic returns in glorious 400-page hardcover deluxe editions, featuring an all-new translation, color pages, and new cover designs. In a dump in the lawless settlement of Scrapyard, far beneath the mysterious space city of Zalem, disgraced cyber-doctor Daisuke Ido makes a strange find: the detached head of a cyborg woman who has lost all her memories. DARK FANG [2017] #1

This one is a vampire tale on the surface, but underneath it’s an ‘action-horror middle finger to the politicians and propagandists who choose to deny the reality of climate change.’ Hehe. “‘EARTH CALLING,’ Part One Her name is Valla. In life she was a fisherwoman. In death she is a vampire residing peacefully on the bottom of the ocean. When a mysterious dark plague descends upon her aquatic paradise, she must venture to the surface in search of answers. GIANTKILLERS [2017] #0

Another great-looking series from Bart Sears combines fantasy and science fiction. This combination seems to be a trend. But I don’t mind one bit. “The foundation for the epic Bart Sears GIANTKILLERS saga starts here. This special double-sized issue presents a pair of short stories written and drawn by master storyteller Bart Sears, as well as writer Ron Marz and artist Tom Raney teaming up for the pivotal lead feature. Fantasy and science fiction clash head on as the grizzled warrior Arkon the Giantkiller must protect the young Auoro, destined to battle the evil Dread Lord Omin… if she can survive. More than 40 pages of stunning art and compelling story for the price of a single issue. Bullet points: […]

PUNISHER [2018] #218

This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen…Punisher wearing the War Machine armor with the white skull painted on the chest plate. Pure genius. I don’t know how he got it or why, but I’m sure there will be a destructive mayhem unlike we’ve ever seen from Frank Castle! And MARVEL LEGACY numbering is applied, so this jumping on point is actually issue #218 of the Punisher’s long publication history. “FRANK CASTLE: WAR MACHINE Part 1 For years, Frank Castle has been fighting a one-man war against criminals who endanger the innocent, but when a certain one-eyed operative offers him the tools to take his fight global…how could he say no? Find out how Frank found his way […]

PORT OF EARTH [2017] #1

Here’s a real cool-looking science fiction series. In exchange for technology, an alien race wants to use Earth as a spaceport. But, some alien individuals are breaking port restrictions and wreaking havoc among our cities. Enter: the smackdown team…Earth Security Agents. Sounds a little like Men In Black, but without all the humor. “Imagine if aliens came to Earth not in war or peace, but with a business deal: open up a spaceport here on Earth in exchange for advanced technology. But when our alien visitors break Port restrictions and wreak havoc in our cities, it falls to the newly formed Earth Security Agents to hunt down and safely deport the dangerous rogue aliens back to the Port of Earth. […]
