WELCOME
Hello, comic fans! Spring has sprung and cabin feverish humans are emerging from their caves to see what awesome comic book offerings are available this month, and the prognosis is good! It’s never a dull month when you look at the cool comic books offered for pre-order that tie in to popular cultural icons. This month, we have…FROZEN, HELLBOY, SUPERMAN, USAGI YOJIMBO, TRANSFORMERS, GHOSTBUSTERS, CROW, HACK/SLASH, BLACK CAT, SILVER SURFER, PETER PORKER, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, HOWARD THE DUCK, STAR WARS, RED SONJA, WARLORD OF MARS, MARS ATTACKS, POWER RANGERS, SOULFIRE, and RICK AND MORTY. Chances are, even if you don’t collect/read comic books, you’ve heard of many of these characters before. Well, there’s a new #1 issue for every one of these characters, and I could make another list with just as many entries of original characters/titles that are appearing for the very first time this month and that you haven’t heard of yet. There could easily be an embryonic, future-massive franchise hidden in the rookie list. I don’t envy the hard choices you fans have to make each month between picking up another Marvel tie-in issue/variant cover or taking a risk with something unknown from an independent publisher. My unsolicited advice would be to speculate less on what may go up in *value* and speculate more on what you may *enjoy.* Every collection built from the near unlimited choices out here and built on its owner’s interests is like a unique fingerprint. As always, let us know if there is something we can track down for you…we try to cater to regular, normal newbies…crazy, intense collectors…and everyone in between (except for the Night King, because that dude’s just cold). –Glenn

FIRST IMPRESSIONS FOR APRIL 2019
Usagi Yojimbo #1
Usagi Yojimbo is easily one of my top 5 favorite comic book series. For reasons I’m not privy to, Stan is relaunching his creator-owned property at IDW. The Dark Horse era has been amazing. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for the IDW era!
“Follow the adventures of rabbit r?nin Miyamoto Usagi as he wanders Edo period Japan on his warrior’s journey. In the start of this three-part story, Usagi becomes embroiled in a puppet drama where the players are not quite what they seem. Written, drawn, and lettered by comics legend Stan Sakai. Colors by Tom Luth (Groo the Wanderer). The start of an exciting new chapter in the epic ongoing saga of Usagi, now published by IDW. Exciting retail incentive variants are offered for the serialized Usagi Yojimbo series for the first time. This series will be in all color.”
Konnichiwa, Kaiju-Kun #1
This is a very intriguing mini-series from Antarctic Press. The one image has some amazing art!
“Prepare for a J-Popzilla blend of retro-manga delight. Japan, the early 1970s: The idol phenomenon has begun, and the competition between talents in the industry is very intense. One top group, a trio of sisters, is eager for promised fame and fortune, but first must follow an odd order from their CEO: Join the Earth Defense Force and titanic hero Ultra38 to protect Earth from giant monsters.”
Samurai Grandpa #1
A cool-looking, new samurai series from Source Point Press!
“After retiring the blade and putting the way of the samurai behind him, Ojichan returns home from the mountains to find his family visited by disaster, and his granddaughter kidnapped by one of his greatest foes from the past. Now Ojichan must set out one last time into a mysterious and magical world and face enemies new and old, in order to bring his granddaughter back.”
