RAVEN: DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS [2018] #1

The Teen Titan, Raven, gets a maxi-series that expands and explores her character. Cool. “In this all-new miniseries, Raven faces a new, otherworldly menace that is all too grounded in reality. Plus, Raven’s personal life is in an uproar as her mother and aunt struggle for the soul of a Titan. It’s up to Baron Winters of the Night Force to intercede on her behalf as she embarks on the adventure called ‘The Girls With the Anime Eyes’. If you were looking to get in at the beginning, here it is… “The guardians in sailor suits return in this definitive edition of the greatest magical girl manga of all time. Features all-new cover illustrations by creator Naoko Takeuchi, a glittering holographic coating, an extra-large size, premium paper, French flaps, and a newly-revised translation. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI--DJ [2018] #1

Cool! Another one-shot tie-in to the next Star Wars saga movie. This one gives some background on DJ, the character who will be played by Benecio Del Toro. I wouldn’t worry about spoilers, as these the comics have always complimented the movies without being essential to enjoy the movie. But, if you’re that person who didn’t even watch the latest trailer, you’ve already read too much in my little blog post here. You’ll need a Bor gullet to get these words out of your brain now. Actually, could you use a Bor gullet to erase ever having seen any Star Wars movie…so you could essentially go back in time and re-experience them for the first time again?!? Hmmm… “When STAR […]

WARHAMMER 40,000: DEATHWATCH [2018] #1

This is a self-contained mini-series that doesn’t require any knowledge of the Warhammer universe or the game. If you’ve ever wondered what the phenomenon is all about, check it out with this mini-series! “The best of the best and the most dangerous space marines from every chapter are called to the Deathwatch. They alone have the strength of mind and body to wield alien weapons and battle the enemy across the universe, manning the wall to defend humanity from the Xenos that would destroy them. When a tide of savage Orks sweeps across the galaxy, a Deathwatch squad is dispatched to stem the flow… Whatever the cost.” Buy It Now Related shopping tags: WARHAMMER 40,000

MARVEL'S AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR PRELUDE [2018] #1

Whoo hoo! A 2-issue mini-series that sets up the Avengers Infinity War movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Some of these official mini-series are adaptations of the movies, but this one looks like original material, not previously seen in any form. “When a terrorist puts the Avengers at odds, CAPTAIN AMERICA and THE WINTER SOLDIER go rogue to find him – but IRON MAN isn’t far behind. Will the Avengers survive the fallout? Then, find out where Captain America, the Falcon and the Black Widow are headed next – because the world needs heroes, whether it wants them or not. And get a sneak peek at Tony Stark’s brand-new armor. Get ready for MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR in […]

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA VS. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA [2018] #1

Wow! A crossover mini-series from Peter David between classic BSG and the re-imagined BSG. I’m so very interested to see how this works, since the re-imagined ‘universe’ actually-sort of-in a weird kind of way…incorporates the history of the classic story as part of its backstory. This should be pretty cool! “At last. The epic story you’ve been dying to see is here, a galaxy and timeline-spanning saga bringing the two very different (and yet so very much alike) crews of the Battlestar Galacticas series together. But don’t expect this historic meeting of heroes to be friendly: they have no idea why they have been brought together, or what the result of this unprecedented meeting is. And it starts here as […]

First Impression: WALT DISNEY SHOWCASE [2018] #1: DONALD DUCK

by Glenn Snow | November 6th, 2017

Wow, another ongoing (?) classic Disney cartoon character title…WALT DISNEY SHOWCASE…with ‘extra-wild adventures and outrageous guest stars!’ “‘The Bad News Bruise Cruise.’ We know Donald’s proud of his sailor suit-but can he singlehandedly sail a luxury liner full of billionaires across the ocean? And if not… why is Uncle Scrooge demanding that he try?” Buy It Now   Related shopping tags: DISNEY, DISNEY, DONALD DUCK

TERRIFICS [2018] #1 Comic Book Cover

Tom Strong! I’ve never been a big fan of the actual stars of this new series, THE TERRIFICS. But, apparently, Mr. Terrific, Metamorpho, Plastic Man and Phantom Girl will be searching the multiverse for Tom Strong. Tom Strong was created by the great Alan Moore for his America’s Best Comics imprint which went over to DC when they acquired Wildstorm. I’d be willing to check this series out to see how DC brings back Tom Strong and his family. “Bound together by fate, united by the spirit of exploration and hope for tomorrow, the Terrifics are bound from the Dark Multiverse of Metal. When Mr. Terrific, Metamorpho, Plastic Man and Phantom Girl find themselves literally bound together by a tragic […]

X-MEN: BLUE ANNUAL [2018] #1

Spinning out of the Venomverse storyline, the ‘Poison X’ storyline starts in this annual issue of X-MEN: BLUE. The expansion of the symbiote ‘universe’ has been hit-and-miss. I’m really hoping this storyline gives the symbiote a righteous place in the galaxy. “THE CROSSOVER BETWEEN VENOM AND X-MEN BLUE STARTS HERE. Spinning out of the events of Venomverse, the Children of the Atom and the Lethal Protector team up to take down an extradimensional threat. This is it, folks, the team-up you’ve been asking for: X-MEN BLUE and VENOM must band together in the cold reaches of space to protect our universe from a threat more diabolical than you can imagine. But will EDDIE BROCK, his faithful SYMBIOTE, MARVEL GIRL, CYCLOPS, […]

WATCHVARK [2018] #1 Comic Book Cover

Dave Sim continues to lampoon comic books in these satirical one-shots. Funny stuff. “Everyone in hell is re-reading Watchmen (yes, ‘again’); first appearance of Dr. Jacobson, Watchvark and OHIP; Watching Men; deconstructing Rorschach. Also reprints online strips from September-October 2016 including the conclusion of Aardvark-Vanaheim Civil War: Cerebus vs. The Renegade Super-Poets; Todd McFarlane’s Grey Hulk; Super-Cerebus and Batvark Team-Up; photoshop Village People tribute bands (C.
