WELCOME
Hello, comic fans! Perusing the latest Previews catalog is the highlight of my month because there’s always so many cool, new comic series sprouting up. I’m always touting Marvel and DC stuff (and I’m really intrigued with DC’s new WONDER TWINS offering), but there’s a couple obscure series from Silver Sprocket that look really good. How does MAGICAL BEATDOWN sound to you? Or EMOTIONAL DATA? Or how about the manga URUSEI YATSURA from Viz and the creator of Inu Yasha? If you want to stick a little more to the mainstream, then check out the stuff from Marvel’s continued 80th Anniversary celebration. There’s some really cool-looking one-shots and one called ZIGGY PIG – SILLY SEAL COMICS, which sounds silly because, ah, the word’s in the title. DC’s got some crazy cool stuff coming out as well. Check out the Brand New Series page on our website if you want to see all the new #1’s this month! As always, let us know if there is something we can track down for you…we try to cater to regular, normal newbies…crazy, intense collectors…and everyone in between (except for Cicada, because, well, it’s a lame name for a villain with semi-cool powers). –Glenn

FIRST IMPRESSIONS FOR DECEMBER 2018
Sharkey The Bounty Hunter #1
Mark Millar launches another sharp, new mini-series under his Netflix umbrella agreement. SHARKEY THE BOUNTY HUNTER looks great as a story with gorgeous-looking art from Simone Bianchi. I’m pretty excited about this one…and it’s already slated for a Netflix movie adaptation! I always remember that Millar said all his stories take place in the same ‘universe,’ but this one seems pretty hard to imagine it fits in smoothly.
“MINISERIES PREMIERE Set in a brilliant new sci-fi universe, Sharkey is a blue-collar bounty hunter who tracks criminals across the galaxy in his converted, rocket-powered ice-cream truck. Aided and abetted by his ten-year-old partner, he’s out for the biggest bounty of his career.”
Wonder Twins #1
This is the most exciting thing to happen to the Wonder Twins since the old Super Friends cartoon days of my childhood! What a perfect addition to the Brian Michael Bendis-curated WONDER COMICS imprint from DC. I definitely want to check this one out.
“Exiled from their home planet, alien heroes Zan and Jayna must navigate life as teens on Earth at South Metropolis High School, where they’re even bigger outsiders than the typical awkward young adults. Under the watchful eye of Superman, the brother and sister pull monitor duty at the Hall of Justice as interns, while also trying to overcome the pitfalls of Zan’s brash confidence and Jayna’s shy but streetwise persona. If you think you know the Wonder Twins, think again-this book takes the form of the unexpected.”
Magical Beatdown #1
Seriously. If you’re looking for something outside the mainstream that is deeply interesting and may even be a sleeper hit. This definitely qualifies…
“Hyper violent street harassment revenge fantasy in the style of Sailor Moon about about an average schoolgirl who transforms into a foul-mouthed and rage-fuelled Magical Girl. Watch in awe as she swiftly disposes of street harassers and uses her array of magical weapons, printed in fluorescent pink and blue.”
