GHOSTS OF HIROSHIMA [2017] #1

This is a very intriguing storyline. Guilt drives a man to investigate a theoretical way to break someone out of hell. His investigation may have created the existence of just such a way that had never existed…and some denizens on the other side are pretty excited about it. “Hell doesn’t always come in a hand basket; sometimes it comes in a briefcase. Guilt is the greatest ghost of them all. For James Henricherson, the guilt of a mistake made many years ago continues to haunt him. It dogs his every move. It keeps him from sleeping. He believes he has condemned an innocent soul to eternal suffering and pain. And he has worked for years to invent a way to […]

BACKWAYS [2017] #1 Comic Book Cover

Here’s another new Aftershock offering that looks like a cross between Harry Potter and Stranger Things. That could be interesting. “There is a hidden nation. A nation of magic and madness, one that exists in all the forgotten spaces. Your basement, your attic, the haunted house down the street, anyone of those might be a part of the Backways. Anna Merrick lost someone in the Backways, and she’ll stop at NOTHING to get them back. Even if it means unleashing something unimaginable. From Justin Jordan (STRAYER, Green Lantern: New Guardians) and Eleonora Carlini (Batgirl, Doctor Who) comes the BRAND NEW series of magic, mystery and mayhem that is sure to appeal to fans of Harry Potter and The Chronicles of […]

MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE [2018] #1 Comic Book Cover

Titles like MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE and MARVEL TEAM-UP are historically important series that ran for a long time and told stories about Marvel characters outside of their main titles where they didn’t have to bear the full weight of their massive continuities. It’s a fitting stroke of genius to revive at least one for MARVEL LEGACY. And is this the first glimpse of the Fantastic Four in print in two years?!? “The Fate of the Four Part 1 THE FOUR ARE NO MORE, SO TWO MUST DO. Something is very wrong with THE HUMAN TORCH and only THE THING can help him. It’s the Marvel Universe reunion you’ve all been waiting for (well, HALF of it, at least.). Plus: What monumental […]

MONSTRO MECHANICA [2017] #1 Comic Book Cover

Hey, this looks fairly cool. It’s not quite steampunk, but it’s got the same feel, as it’s based on da Vinci’s inventions. Aftershock has had some pretty good series, so this one might be worth checking out. “A new series starring Leonardo da Vinci, his female apprentice and their wooden robot. At the height of the Renaissance, warring factions vie for control of Leonardo da Vinci’s destructive arsenal. The only thing standing in their way is Leonardo’s young apprentice and her nine-foot tall mechanical bodyguard. Together, they navigate a world of wicked men and war machines, determined to save Leonardo from the world-and the world from Leonardo. From creators Paul Allor (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Chris Evenhuis (Wynonna Earp) […]

X-MEN: GRAND DESIGN [2018] #1 Comic Book Cover

Now, this is a seriously cool idea…a chronicle of the entire history of the X-Men, condensed, but in the art style of the period. This is such a great idea for either fans looking to revisit history or brand new fans looking to catch up. Genius. If this series does well, you can expect every major series to get the same treatment. Mr. Eisner award-winning Ed Piskor may be employed for a very long time… “From Eisner award-winning creator Ed Piskor (Hip-Hop Family Tree) comes a thrilling new series chronicling all of X-Men history. X-MEN: GRAND DESIGN stitches together the most important moments in mutant history, creating a comprehensive narrative celebrating the X-Men’s past, present, and future. The first in […]

PARADISO [2017] #1 Comic Book Cover

A new ongoing science fiction comic book series from Image. It looks like a fantastic mystery. “The Midnight Event forever changed the world. Now, centuries later, Jack Kryznan arrives on the outskirts of Paradiso City, haunted by fragments of childhood memories and in possession of a mysterious device-one with the power to change the destiny of this living breathing metropolis, the people who dwell within, and the guardians who strive for and against it.” Buy It Now

DAMAGE [2018] #1 Comic Book Cover

DC kicks off a new wave of superheroes with DAMAGE, THE IMMORTAL MEN, and THE SILENCER. Damage doesn’t look half bad. Sorry, if I can’t get too excited about a wave of superheroes, as we’ve seen this sort of thing many times…a publisher trying to instantly create a whole universe or a whole stable of characters. What inevitably happens is most are mediocre, some outright flop, and maybe one or two catch. If the publisher is established, as DC most certainly is, than when the effort dwindles, the publisher will try to work the catchy ones into its existing lines. If the publisher is an upstart, it usually just goes out of business. It’s sad, but that’s the reality. If […]

PHOENIX RESURRECTION: THE RETURN OF JEAN GREY [2018] #1 Comic Book Cover

True to her alias–Phoenix–Jean Grey has died and come back several times in comic books. Don’t act so surprised. I’m positive she won’t die this time. “She will return, like a Phoenix from the ashes. Years ago, Jean Grey died and the X-Men mourned her. Since then, the world has changed, her teammates have lived without her and died without her. And now, when strange events start happening all over the world, those teammates can only come to one conclusion – the one true Jean Grey is back. Rated T+” Buy It Now Related shopping tags: MARVEL LEGACY (2017), X-MEN FAMILY TITLES

BARBARELLA [2017] #1 Comic Book Cover

It’s a wonder Barbarella hasn’t been revived before now. It’s science fiction–even if it’s on the absurd side at times–but obviously, that’s not what Barbarella is most known for. The 1968 film adaptation starring Jane Fonda is really only one data point in the liberated universe that is Barbarella’s. This series is guaranteed to contain many more planet-romping adventures. “Earth’s star-crossed daughter is back. When Barbarella wanders into a war zone, the theocratic rulers of Parosia arrest and imprison her. A prison break is brewing, but now that she knows what the Parosians do to their own citizens Barbarella decides to make this fight her own…” Buy It Now
