STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE GRAPHIC NOVEL ADAPTATION [2017] Comic Book Cover

Oh, very cool. Another Rogue One comic adaptation. This is a different adaptation than the one Marvel did, with this one having a slightly more animation style. “The Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon, is nearing completion, and the Rebel Alliance may be doomed. Enter Jyn Erso, daughter of the Death Star’s reluctant creator, who desperately seeks to save her father from Imperial control. On her quest, she’ll join forces with Rebel spy Cassian Andor, reprogrammed Imperial droid K-2SO, and other supporters of the Rebel cause, only to discover that their goals may differ crucially from her own. It all culminates in a saga-defining showdown on the tropical planet Scarif, with Jyn and her friends attempting to steal the Death […]

WITCHBLADE [2017] #1 Comic Book Cover

At 185 issues, Witchblade was one of Image’s (Top Cow) longest-running and most successful comic book series, running two decades. It was an instant hit from the very beginning, owing–no doubt–in no small part to Michael Turner’s art, especially his depictions of the sparsely-clothed and busty Sara Pezzini. Witchblade has been adapted into a television series, manga, anime, and a novel. It was optioned for a movie, but was never produced. The development of a second television series was announced in January 2017 for an as-yet-unspecified release. Now, a second comic book series with a new Witchblade wielder…can’t wait to see what her story will be. “‘LIFE AFTER,’ Part One Gunned down and left for dead on a New York […]

Oh, did I forget to mention that the Mangaverse is an official alternate universe in the Marvel Multi-verse? It is. My bad. But, it’s good. IMMORTAL MEN [2018] #1 Comic Book Cover

Here’s another title in DC’s ‘New Age of Heroes.’ I’ve expressed my muted interest in these sorts of whole waves of superheroes from publishers. They don’t tend to last, but a few characters may survive the creation to live on in the publisher’s universe proper…if the publisher isn’t an upstart. THE IMMORTAL MEN seems to be employing the old trope of some secret society having protected humanity from the shadows since forever, but we’re only learning about them now. I have yet to see this mechanism work effectively. I’m sorry, I don’t see this one lasting. You know what would be more effective, but a logistical nightmare? What if a major publisher like DC or Marvel planted little scenes in […]

MIGHTY CRUSADERS [2017] #1 Comic Book Cover

Archie Comics’ superheroes are not as well-established or well-known as their Riverdale gang. But they’ve been around since before the Silver Age with attempted revivals every so often. The Mighty Crusaders was a group of previously established heroes brought together as a team in 1965, similar to how the Avengers was initially formed. Their first series in 1965 ran for seven issues and was scripted by none other than Jerry Siegel, who you may recognize as the co-creator of Superman. So, if this title seems unknown to you and if the heroes seem like they’re from another era…it’s because they are kinda. It’s hard to say what they need to elevate them up into the mainstream, but I hope this […]

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI--STORMS OF CRAIT [2018] #1

Holy awesome! Anyone else who is chomping at the bit for the next Star Wars movie will want to pick this one-shot up. Apparently it has some backstory about Crait, a world which will be featured in THE LAST JEDI! I’m absolutely sure the info won’t be critical to enjoying the film, but come on. If you’re a super-fan, this is a must-have! Checchetto’s cover is gorgeous to boot. “This December, the soon-to-be thrilling Star Wars: The Last Jedi rocks movie screens across the world…and the reverberations are felt all around a galaxy far, far away. First up, learn the secret of the mineral planet Crait. Long before it became a battleground between the Resistance and the First Order, Luke […]

HELLBOY: KRAMPUSNACHT [2017] #1 Comic Book Cover

This is exciting–Adam Hughes draws a Hellboy one-shot. And it’s a satanic spin on Santa? Definitely a good ‘read.’ “The only thing more exciting than pitting Hellboy against this Satanic spin on Santa is the team-up of Mike Mignola and Adam Hughes.” Buy It Now Related shopping tags: ADAM HUGHES (CA), HELLBOY, HELLBOY UNIVERSE, MIKE MIGNOLA (W)
