MERA: QUEEN OF ATLANTIS [2018] #1

Mera gets her own mini-series! Introduced in the Silver Age, Mera wasn’t as much of a player in the DC Universe until the Blackest Night crossover event in 2009. She really shined in the New 52 relaunch of Aquaman, and now has a place in the Justice League movie and the follow-on Aquaman movie. “From the pages of AQUAMAN comes a brand-new adventure starring Mera, in her own title for the first time ever. As the brutal Atlantean Civil War rages, Mera must keep the peace between the surface world and Atlantis as its newly anointed queen in exile. But when Aquaman’s brother Orm, a.k.a. Ocean Master, learns of his homeland’s fate, he’ll stop at nothing to return to Atlantis […]

BATTLECATS [2018] #1

Here’s an interesting new mini-series from Mad Cave Studios. It’s got a real nostalgic look and feel for a fantasy series. “The Battlecats leave Stormholt on a perilous quest. King Eramad III sent our heroes on a hunt for the legendary Dire Beast in the haunted region of La Marque. Kelthan and the Battlecats must first journey through the Dark Forest and face an unexpected enemy from their past.” Buy It Now

COME INTO ME [2018] #1

This looks quite interesting if you’re into social commentary science fiction. Self-described as a cross between The Fly and Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind. Hmm, I enjoyed both those movies. “From the critically acclaimed writers of The Dregs comes a new horror series about body image, social media, and memory. When an entrepreneur with a god complex creates a technology that allows two minds to share one body, he doesn’t anticipate the degenerative effects of long-term trials. Come Into Me is a contemporary comment on connected culture and our longing for approval in the digital age. This is a world where technology and flesh become indistinguishable, begging the question, ‘How much sharing is too much sharing?’ Prepare yourself for […]

STAR WARS: THRAWN [2018] #1 Comic Book Cover

Wow, this is exciting! Thrawn is one of my favorite Star Wars characters, and Zahn’s latest novel in the New Canon era is absolutely outstanding! Any true Star Wars fan MUST have this series! “One of the most cunning and ruthless warriors in the history of the Star Wars Universe, Grand Admiral Thrawn is back with a six-issue miniseries about how he became one of the most feared military tacticians in a galaxy far, far away. Written by Jody Houser (ROGUE ONE ADAPTATION) and drawn by Luke Ross (STAR WARS: DARTH MAUL, STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS ADAPTATION), follow the comic adaptation of Timothy Zahn’s New York Times best-selling novel about Thrawn’s rise in the Imperial ranks. Rated T” Buy […]

DEATHBED [2018] #1 Comic Book Cover

Who else is up for ‘an insane world of psychedelic violence and explosive supernatural adventure?’ {many hands raise} “Myth, hack, sex symbol, stark raving lunatic-all of these words have been used to describe Antonio Luna, the world’s greatest living adventurer. Or at least he was until 20 years ago, when he mysteriously vanished from the public eye. Now the ninety-year-old has returned and claims to be on his deathbed. Which is where Valentine Richards, a failed novelist turned reporter, comes in. Val is hired to travel to Luna’s remote castle home and uncover where the old star has been all these years, and just how much of what he says is actually true. But once Val starts to hear Luna’s […]

BRAVE AND THE BOLD: BATMAN AND WONDER WOMAN [2018] #1

Hey, this is a pretty good-looking mini-series with a BRAVE AND THE BOLD title. While Marvel is doing their ‘Legacy’ thing, DC has thrown in a little legacy title of their own. “Don’t miss the start of a new, six-issue miniseries written and illustrated by Liam Sharp (WONDER WOMAN). When a Celtic god’s murder leads to a war between the fairy folk and a possible breach between worlds, Wonder Woman must find the murderer and keep the peace while Batman investigates strange occurrences in Gotham City. As Diana must turn to the World’s Greatest Detective for help, the two heroes quickly learn their cases may be connected.” Buy It Now Related shopping tags: BATMAN, BATMAN FAMILY TITLES, WONDER WOMAN

The LABYRINTH gets a prequel treatment from Boom Studios. We couldn’t be more excited for the untold history of the Goblin King! “Simon Spurrier (Godshaper, The Power of the Dark Crystal) and Daniel Bayliss present a magical look into the world of Jim Henson’s Labyrinth. Before Sarah braved the Labyrinth to save her brother, another young woman sought to save a young boy named Jareth from the clutches of the Goblin King. DARK DAYS: THE ROAD TO METAL [2018-HC]

If you missed out on the DARK NIGHTS prelude, DARK DAYS, here’s your opportunity to start from the beginning. This one has the signature metal foil cover on a hardcover. Can’t remember ever seeing that yet. I also like how it goes back in publishing history and grabs some issues that lay foundational hints, even if they maybe are retroactive continuity (retcon) hints. “Batman is hiding a dark secret that could threaten the very existence of the multiverse. Leading directly into the blockbuster event DARK NIGHTS: METAL, this is an epic story that spans generations, featuring DARK DAYS: THE FORGE and DARK DAYS: THE CASTING, as well as classic DC stories that built the foundations of Metal, including FINAL CRISIS […]
