TUROK [2019] #1

Dynamite launches another TUROK series, this one written by Ron Marz. If it sticks to the original Gold Key concept, it should be good. Turok suffers when he deviates too far from his roots. You could say he gets lost in a Lost Valley. Bart Sears covers don’t hurt either. “A new hero rises. Turok pursues his kidnapped brother… in the Badlands of the Old West. In the waning days of the Indian Wars, the U.S. cavalry has captured Andar, but Turok will stop at nothing to rescue him. But that quest will lead Turok, Andar and even the soldiers to a strange, lost land inhabited by creatures beyond their imaginations. This is Turok as you’ve never seen him before […]

For anyone who knows how significant the DEMON IN A BOTTLE story is for Iron Man, this cover is freakin’ amazing!! “You’re not really wearing a jetpack, user. It’s a game. You’re not really taking that drink, Tony Stark… Do not miss this issue of Iron Man. ‘Digital Demon in a Bottle’ is literally a game changer.” Buy It Now Related shopping tags: IRON MAN, IRON MAN FAMILY TITLES

FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN [2019] #1

If anyone deserves a third ongoing flagship title, it’s SPIDER-MAN. This series is billed as having a local neighborhood vibe. “Spider-Man is the worst neighbor EVER. There are always crazy villains and property damage and drama and…and he CATCHES the villains. And he tries to fix the damage and he helps carry your groceries and actually that property damage keeps the rents down. You know what? Spider-Man is the best neighbor ever and this book will give you a closer look at Spider-Man’s (and Peter Parker’s) neighborhood than any book ever. Also, it wouldn’t be a Spider-Man adventure without a threat that could destroy not only Spider-Man, but all his neighbors. Superstar writer TOM TAYLOR (X-MEN RED, ALL-NEW WOLVERINE, Injustice) […]

OLIVER [2019] #1

If Charles Dickens had written in the post-apocalyptic superhero genre…this is presumably what you’d get. “SERIES PREMIERE. Award-winning screenwriter GARY WHITTA (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Book Of Eli) teams with celebrated artist DARICK ROBERTSON (Transmetropolitan, HAPPY., The Boys) for a new take on a literary classic-with a futuristic twist. OLIVER re-imagines Charles Dickens’ most famous orphan as a post-apocalyptic superhero fighting to liberate a war-ravaged England while searching for the truth about his own mysterious origins.” Buy It Now

MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS [2019] #1

The 1988 MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS had some absolutely amazing Wolverine stories in it. Some are classic, can’t miss story arcs, including the first details on the Weapon X program. The success of this new incarnation will be completely based on how relevant the story arcs are to the characters. I’m just sayin’, if the stories are just stories without any lasting impact on the characters’ overall history, then there will be little to celebrate decades from now. “THE CLASSIC MARVEL SERIES RETURNS FOR MARVEL’S 80th ANNIVERSARY. Three titanic tales celebrating the first decade of Marvel stories. First – an all-new tale of the man they call the Wolverine begins in the 1940s. Then comes Captain America, the first Avenger of […]

BLACK WIDOW [2019] #1

Back from the dead, a new ongoing Black Widow series with “vice, violence and vengeance.” Sounds great! “…AND HELL FOLLOWED WITH HER. Natasha Romanoff was trained to kill. For years now she’s tried to overcome that programming, to side with the angels…to be a hero. And where’d that get her? Killed. By one of the few true friends she allowed herself to have. Now she’s back from the dead, angry as hell and finding those better angels harder and harder to hear. Jen and Sylvia Soska – the Twisted Twins of horror – join rising artist Flaviano to weave a web of vice, violence and vengeance that will net Natasha the biggest bad men she’s ever faced…or put her back […]

SUPERMAN 100-PAGE SUPER-SPECTACULAR [2019] #1

Marv Wolfman’s self-proclaimed “best Superman story [he’s] ever written.” This is an unpublished tale originally written for the SUPERMAN CONFIDENTIAL [2007] series. Must admit…I’m keenly intrigued. “‘This is the best Superman story I’ve ever written.’ So says living legend Marv Wolfman, and when you’ve written hundreds of Superman stories as he has, it means a great deal. This gem of a tale – written and drawn from 2006-2009 for the SUPERMAN CONFIDENTIAL series – explodes from the DC archives as a triumphant tale of Clark Kent’s fateful first days in Metropolis, which were far from easy. His early failures almost ensured there would never be a hero called Superman. Powerful writing and stunning art combine to conjure an inspiring story […]

CRIMINAL [2019] #1

Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips are back with more stories set in their award-winning CRIMINAL crime noir world. No doubt there will be lots more clichés and violence, but–thanks to the beautiful world-building–it’s thoroughly entertaining. “SERIES PREMIERE. THE RETURN OF THE MOST ACCLAIMED CRIME COMIC OF THE 21ST CENTURY. Hot off their bestselling series KILL OR BE KILLED and their original graphic novel MY HEROES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN JUNKIES, crime comic masters ED BRUBAKER and SEAN PHILLIPS finally return to their most-demanded title-as a new MONTHLY SERIES. In this double-sized (at no additional cost.) debut issue, Teeg Lawless is back in town. But he finds himself in more trouble than ever, thanks to his delinquent teenage son-and this time, fists […]
