STAR WARS [2015] #38

Holy City, Batman! The Star Wars comic book series is going to Jedha. Specifically, in the saga time period between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, Luke, Leia and Han are going to Jedha! This is Kieron Gillen’s first issue of the flagship Star Wars comic book series. Oh, and do I have to mention that it’s *canon* in the New Star Wars Canon? Can’t wait to see what else is unearthed on Jedha. “THE ASHES OF JEDHA. KIERON GILLEN’S FIRST ISSUE ON STAR WARS. The Rebel Alliance turns its attention to the shattered planet of Jedha. Once the site of great significance to the Jedi, Jedha was left in ruins when the Death Star annihilated the Holy […]

BATMAN: CREATURE OF THE NIGHT [2018] #1

This one should be great as well! Kurt Busiek’s SUPERMAN: SECRET IDENTITY series from 2004 is not a true ‘Elseworlds’ story, but it does take place outside of the DCU proper. This follow-up mini-series in the same vein focuses on Bruce Wainwright becoming ‘Batman’ in a world without superheroes. “Young Bruce Wainwright lost his parents in a violent crime…and in the real world, no superheroes exist to save the day. But as grief and rage builds inside Bruce until he feels he can’t keep it inside anymore, something strange starts taking wing in the Gotham night. Perhaps Bruce’s grief isn’t inside him after all? Modern masters Kurt Busiek and John Paul Leon unite for the spiritual companion to the beloved […]

GAO [2017] #1 Comic Book Cover

Hehe, this actually looks pretty funny. I can totally see this giant, cute monster stumbling all around innocently…making everyone crazy mad. At it’s core, I hope it’s a comical backlash against everything cutesy and schmoopy. “Cower at the presence of Gao, colossal kaiju of cuteness. This lovable leviathan spends his days under the sea until visiting aliens convince him to make friends on the surface. Gao thus leaves the ocean depths, only to spread shock and d’awww in his wake. This adorable mountain of menace unleashes destruction with every step…but how can you be mad at a face like that?” Buy It Now Related shopping tags: KAIJU

MAESTROS [2017] #1

I’d check this one out. It’s got a weird Sandman vibe and gets high praise from Brian K. Vaughn. Sure to be a good read. “The Maestro and his entire royal family have been murdered. Now, his banished son from Earth will inherit the Wizard King’s throne along with a spell that turns its user into GOD. With enemies everywhere, will this Orlando-born millennial be able to keep his new magic kingdom? From STEVE SKROCE, the storyboard artist of The Matrix trilogy, the artist and co-creator of WE STAND ON GUARD and Doc Frankenstein, the writer / artist of Wolverine, and the artist of Amazing Spider-Man and ALAN MOORE’s YOUNGBLOOD. ‘MAESTROS is a masterpiece, with one of the best first […]

4 KIDS WALK INTO A BANK [2016-TPB]

Hey, this looks very good. I was immediately intrigued by the title and the story concept. Then, Kieron Gillen and Brian K. Vaughn give it high praise. I’ll be this one will be a gem for a long time. “4 KIDS WALK INTO A BANK is the darkly comedic story of four burgeoning child criminals and their elaborate plans. KID LOBOTOMY [2017] #1

Whoa, this one looks like it might be a genre-bender. Peter Milligan is known for some whacky stuff, but this one from him and Tess Fowler feels way out there. This title kicks off IDW’s new imprint, Black Crown. It has a Vertigo-ish feel. “Kafka meets King Lear by way of Young Frankenstein in KID LOBOTOMY, a dark, demented, monthly satire that follows a dysfunctional family of hoteliers. Will sibling rivalry, seduction, and shapeshifting eventually lead to sanity or salvation? Big Daddy is a rich hotelier who, in a cracked echo of King Lear, appoints his youngest descendant to manage The Suites, a peculiar hotel located behind the Black Crown Pub. Affectionately known as Kid, his good looks and swagger […]
