Scott Snyder has done an amazing job with Batman ever since the New 52 relaunch. If you’re enjoying the television series, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., you’ll probably like this new series…Secret Warriors…starring Daisy Johnson, aka Quake. The Daisy Johnson comic book character predates the television character by nearly a decade. In fact, the first season television character had very few similarities with the comic book character, and few would have guessed at the time they were the same character. But as more details were uncovered about the television character, several aspects of her history began to converge with the comic book character. The Marvel Previews magazine gives you no idea what this new “classified” series from Marvel is about…because the description is, well, “classified.”  But Marvel has subsequently released the description below with these images. Have they taken this whole evil Captain America thing too far? It was a shock to learn that Cap was a Hydra sleeper agent, but I thought they were extricating themselves from it with the old “he was just brainwashed” trick. Peter Parker’s clone is back with his own ongoing series! Is there room in the Spider-Family for him? He’s been disavowed almost since he first appeared in 1975, but each time Marvel reboots its Universe, he seems to get a slightly surer foothold in mainstream continuity. The Spider-Verse has blown open the doors on alternate Spider-Men and -Women, but this one clone has had a tough time keeping traction. I’m always excited to read more about the Weapon X program. The promise of a new WEAPON X series (offered for pre-order in this month’s Preveiews Catalog) is the promise of more super killers from the same program that produced fan favorites such as Wolverine and Deadpool. How long the new players last against the originals is another matter. The role of the Weapon X program has expanded and deepened over time in the Marvel Universe. What began as the simple mention of Wolverine’s code name–Weapon X–in his first cameo appearance in THE INCREDIBLE HULK #180 from 1974 has blossomed into an program within a larger program (the Weapon Plus Program) that produced several other agents. It’s back! The first four issues were a huge hit. There’s just something about this adventure comic that has such an attractive mix. The author wants it to have “long fights, dark jokes, creepy atmosphere, short plots and long plots, and comfortable conclusions that, hopefully, still leave you wanting more.” Seriously cool cover. “NEW STORY ARC! ‘IN THE SHADOW OF THE TOWER’ Norgal and Agatha are back! The heavily manga-influenced art caught my eye on this one. The description mentions “…the beauty and imagination of Studio Ghibli meet the intensity of Mad Max…” That kind of description immediately evokes images of Akira in my mind, one of my all-time favorites. I think X-O Manowar has a superhero origin story as strong as any other first-tier hero from the big two companies.  Someday I’ll see it on the big screen.
