STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK [2019-SC]

My favorite chapter, but then I’m an OT child. Get your kids hooked with this all-ages, animation style adaptation of the best chapter of the Skywalker Saga. “Faithfully bringing events from the series’ defining installment to the comics page, read along as Luke Skywalker confronts the legacy of the Jedi; Han, Leia, and Chewie struggle to evade the Empire, encountering danger at every turn; and Vader pursues the Rebellion with greater determination than ever before. BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER [2019] #1

Boom! Studios takes over the Buffy the Vampire Slayer license from Dark Horse. This flagship title feels a little like a reboot than a continuation of the ‘Buffyverse.’ It will definitely be interesting to see where Boom takes the franchise. “· Go back to the beginning as the critically acclaimed pop culture phenomenon Buffy The Vampire Slayer is reimagined under the guidance of series creator Joss Whedon. · This is the Buffy Summers you know, who wants what every average teenager wants: friends at her new school, decent grades, and to escape her imposed destiny as the next in a long line of vampire slayers tasked with defeating the forces of evil. · But her world looks a lot more […]

WEB OF VENOM: UNLEASHED [2019] #1

Marvel is doing these WEB OF VENOM one-shots that tangentially tie into the ongoing VENOM series but can stand alone as well. The first couple have been mind-blowing, and the cover alone for this one looks to knock it out of the park again. Must read. “From the illustrator of the blockbuster series of the summer comes the next epic installment in the WEB OF VENOM – a journey from the symbiote’s perspective through Eddie’s old haunts in San Francisco. It might not like what it finds… Rated T+.” Buy It Now Interested in Getting Started In VENOM comic books? Check out our guide here. Related shopping tags: SPIDER-MAN FAMILY TITLES, VENOM

INVADERS [2019] #1

This new series look interesting. Most times, Marvel tries to tell stories of the Invaders from the WWII era, and they don’t really resonate with the modern reader. But this looks like a modern story–with the characters in their current-day identities–and just assuming all the backstory from WWII. Very intriguing. “THE GREATEST GENERATION OF MARVEL HEROES IS BACK – TO STOP ONE OF THEIR OWN. In commemoration of Marvel’s 80th anniversary and springing from events in the pages of AVENGERS and THE BEST DEFENSE, the Marvel Universe’s first super-team is back. CAPTAIN AMERICA. THE HUMAN TORCH. THE WINTER SOLDIER. NAMOR. They fought in WORLD WAR II together as THE INVADERS. But now NAMOR is the enemy, a global threat more […]

GUNNING FOR HITS [2019] #1

I don’t usually go for music comics, but this crime thriller set in the 80’s could be quite good. “SERIES PREMIERE. Set in the shady New York City music scene of the mid-80s, GUNNING FOR HITS stars Martin Mills, a record company talent scout with an inscrutable past. Follow Martin as he attempts to sign a rock band that’ll conquer the world in this music business crime thriller written by music producer JEFF ROUGVIE (David Bowie, Big Star) with art by MORITAT (The Spirit, Harley Quinn, Hellblazer). TUROK [2019] #1

Dynamite launches another TUROK series, this one written by Ron Marz. If it sticks to the original Gold Key concept, it should be good. Turok suffers when he deviates too far from his roots. You could say he gets lost in a Lost Valley. Bart Sears covers don’t hurt either. “A new hero rises. Turok pursues his kidnapped brother… in the Badlands of the Old West. In the waning days of the Indian Wars, the U.S. cavalry has captured Andar, but Turok will stop at nothing to rescue him. But that quest will lead Turok, Andar and even the soldiers to a strange, lost land inhabited by creatures beyond their imaginations. This is Turok as you’ve never seen him before […]

For anyone who knows how significant the DEMON IN A BOTTLE story is for Iron Man, this cover is freakin’ amazing!! “You’re not really wearing a jetpack, user. It’s a game. You’re not really taking that drink, Tony Stark… Do not miss this issue of Iron Man. ‘Digital Demon in a Bottle’ is literally a game changer.” Buy It Now Related shopping tags: IRON MAN, IRON MAN FAMILY TITLES

FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN [2019] #1

If anyone deserves a third ongoing flagship title, it’s SPIDER-MAN. This series is billed as having a local neighborhood vibe. “Spider-Man is the worst neighbor EVER. There are always crazy villains and property damage and drama and…and he CATCHES the villains. And he tries to fix the damage and he helps carry your groceries and actually that property damage keeps the rents down. You know what? Spider-Man is the best neighbor ever and this book will give you a closer look at Spider-Man’s (and Peter Parker’s) neighborhood than any book ever. Also, it wouldn’t be a Spider-Man adventure without a threat that could destroy not only Spider-Man, but all his neighbors. Superstar writer TOM TAYLOR (X-MEN RED, ALL-NEW WOLVERINE, Injustice) […]
