Spiral Comics November 2017 Newsletter

by Glenn Snow | November 16th, 2017

Hello, comic fans! Spiral Comics is working through some of our backlog of back issue acquisitions. You can find them on our website or in our eBay store. This month, we’re adding a couple sections to the newsletter: New Tags and Spotlight Tag. Our tag database is one of the most unique aspects of our online store, and it’s an invaluable tool to help you find comics that you’ll love! As always, let us know if there is something we can track down for you…we try to cater to regular, normal newbies…crazy, intense collectors…and everyone in between (except a Demogorgon, they’re pretty unfriendly) — Glenn

Darth Vader Trade Paperback Available on Amazon

Spiral Comics is proud to announce a partnership with Amazon to supply trade paperbacks. We can’t stock every trade paperback and hardcover that stays in print, and Amazon tends to have prices as good as we could provide. And if you’re a Prime member, you can get a great deal on shipping just a few items from Amazon. Our Get Started In… pages have curated lists of compilations in suggested reading order for some of your favorite characters. There you’ll find links to trade paperbacks and hardcovers where these items are in print and available on Amazon. You’ll also find a little icon letting you know if the items are Prime eligible. This is just another way we try to share our love and passion of comics!

Titan Books took over printing of the American novel imprint, Hard Case Crime, in 2011 and began publishing associated comic book adaptations in 2016. The novels– and any subsequently branded comic adaptations– are hardboiled crime stories consisting of both reprints of paperback crime novels from the 1940's and 50's and original material in this same noir-ish genre. Both the novel and the comic covers typically feature illustrations done in a style familiar from the golden age of paperbacks.

Rogue and Gambit #1
Way cool! The on-again, off-again X-beauties get their own mini-series under the Marvel Legacy banner. The X-ual tension is killing me! (See what I did there?)

“Ring of Fire Part 1 Everybody’s favorite X-couple is reunited. And boy, are they not happy about that… Kitty Pryde must send Rogue and Gambit on an undercover mission to find a group of kidnapped mutants. What they discover on this mission will shock them. But will it also bring them closer together…? It’s a high-stakes adventure caper that only the two hottest X-Men can deliver. Rated T+”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi–DJ #1
Cool! Another one-shot tie-in to the next Star Wars saga movie. This one gives some background on DJ, the character who will be played by Benecio Del Toro. I wouldn’t worry about spoilers, as these the comics have always complimented the movies without being essential to enjoy the movie. But, if you’re that person who didn’t even watch the latest trailer, you’ve already read too much in my little blog post here. You’ll need a Bor gullet to get these words out of your brain now. Actually, could you use a Bor gullet to erase ever having seen any Star Wars movie…so you could essentially go back in time and re-experience them for the first time again?!? Hmmm…

“When STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI takes theaters in FORCE (get it?) this December, Star Wars fans will get a peek into some new dark corners of the Galaxy Far Away…and out of one of those corners scuttles DJ, the mysterious character played by Benecio Del Toro. Who is this mystery man, and what put him in the path of our Resistance heroes? Join Ben Acker and Ben Blacker (Star Wars Join the Resistance, Star Wars: The Last Jedi – The Storms of Crait) and Kev Walker (Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, Darkhawk) as they reveal a day in DJ’s life just before his appearance in the film. Rated T”

Battlestar Galactica vs. Battlestar Galactica #1
Wow! A crossover mini-series from Peter David between classic BSG and the re-imagined BSG. I’m so very interested to see how this works, since the re-imagined ‘universe’ actually-sort of-in a weird kind of way…incorporates the history of the classic story as part of its backstory. This should be pretty cool!

“At last. The epic story you’ve been dying to see is here, a galaxy and timeline-spanning saga bringing the two very different (and yet so very much alike) crews of the Battlestar Galacticas series together. But don’t expect this historic meeting of heroes to be friendly: they have no idea why they have been brought together, or what the result of this unprecedented meeting is. And it starts here as the legendary Commander Cain and the crew of the Pegasus are revealed to be alive, and have encountered an individual they never thought they would meet: the last Cylon. All this has happened before, but there will NEVER be anything like it again.”
