UNNATURAL [2018] #1

This maxi-series will be popular. Throw a hint of sensuality into an anthropomorphic comic book, and fans will faun [sic] all over it. Just sayin’. “Leslie is a simple pig girl. She loves sushi, she’s stuck with a job she hates, and she lives under a brutal totalitarian government-one that punishes transgressors for anything deemed ‘unnatural.’ Leslie dreams of something different for herself. But those dreams are becoming dangerous… This Italian hit series by MIRKA ANDOLFO (Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, DC Comics Bombshells) will transport you into a colorful but terrible world-full of anthropomorphic creatures, but light on personal freedoms-by way of a breathtaking plot that travels between thriller and fantasy, with a hint of sensuality.” Buy It Now

PROJECT SUPERPOWERS [2018] #0

Project Superpowers continues! More resurrected Golden Age hero goodness! Although I don’t see Jim Krueger or Alex Ross’ name anywhere in the credits on this latest series. Can’t beat the price though. “Superpowers #0: Project Superpowers is Back. Written by Rob (Suicide Squad) Williams, illustrated by Sergio (Swords of Sorrow, Superman) Davila, and featuring an all-star roster of cover artists, this introductory priced issue is the perfect starting point for the most ambitious superhero story of 2018. An all-new threat faces the Earth, while the team faces turmoil from within and must overcome all obstacles to prove their worth and value in a world that desperately needs its heroes. The Death Defying Devil, Samson, Black Terror, Masquerade, Green Lama, Scarab […]

LIFE OF CAPTAIN MARVEL [2018] #1

The ‘true’ origin of the CAPTAIN MARVEL that is Carol Danvers. “THE DEFINITIVE ORIGIN OF CAPTAIN MARVEL. Carol Danvers was just a girl from the Boston suburbs who loved science and the Red Sox until a chance encounter with a Kree hero gave her incredible super-powers. Now, she’s a leader in the Avengers and the commander of Alpha Flight. But what if there were more to the story? When crippling anxiety attacks put her on the sidelines in the middle of a fight, Carol finds herself reliving memories of a life she thought was far behind her. You can’t outrun where you’re from – and sometimes, you HAVE to go home again. But there are skeletons in Captain Marvel’s closet […]

SUPERMAN [2018] #1

Bendis takes over Superman at DC with a new #1. This will be interesting to see what Bendis can bring to the Superman mythos. “A bold new chapter for the greatest superhero of all time begins here as the superstar team of writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Ivan Reis begin their run on the all-new SUPERMAN. The fallout from the Man of Steel miniseries has Clark Kent looking at the world through new eyes… with new ideas about what Superman could and should do for the city of Metropolis and the planet Earth. His first job? Getting the planet back out of the Phantom Zone.” Buy It Now Related shopping tags: BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS (W), SUPERMAN, SUPERMAN FAMILY TITLES

FARMHAND [2018] #1

At first glance I thought this was going to be a zombie title, but it’s vastly more interesting than that. Check it out! “Jedidiah Jenkins is a farmer-but his cash crop isn’t corn or soy. Jed grows fast-healing, plug-and-play human organs. Lose a finger? Need a new liver? He’s got you covered. Unfortunately, strange produce isn’t the only thing Jed’s got buried. Deep in the soil of the Jenkins Family Farm, something dark has taken root, and it’s beginning to bloom. From ROB GUILLORY, Eisner-winning co-creator and artist of Image Comics’ CHEW, comes a new dark comedy about science gone sinister and agriculture gone apocalyptic. Nature is a Mother.” Buy It Now Related shopping tags: SCI-FI

IMMORTAL HULK [2018] #1

WELCOME Hello, comic fans! Both DC and Marvel are offering relaunches of major titles this month. DC has HAWKMAN, JUSTICE LEAGUE and the MAN OF STEEL. Brian Michael Bendis makes his big DC debut with MAN OF STEEL! The Teen Titans and Titans have specials as well this month, presumably before a relaunch next month. A massive shake-up will occur next month with the Previews Catalog itself. DC is moving out of the Previews Catalog into their own self-contained catalog, aptly called DC PREVIEWS. Marvel has been in their own catalog forever. I’ve never understood the attraction of separating from Previews, but there must be some intangible benefit. To fill the void in the premiere publishers section, Dynamite and Boom […]

ZINNOBER [2018] #1

This is a really cool-looking, new, dragon-themed title from Scout Comics. “Twenty years ago dragons returned to Earth and laid waste to human civilization. In the event the surviving humans named ‘Zinnober,’ Claire, then a young girl, lost her parents to the devastating force of these primeval creatures. Today, she’s hell-bent on avenging the death of her family. But will the skills she was taught by her foster-father, the troubled ex-Marine James, be enough to fight an unstoppable enemy older than the Earth itself? Will the knowledge of her newest ally, the young scientist Andrew, bring her even closer to her goal? And what role will the mysterious Followers, a cult of mad dragon worshippers, play in all of this?” […]

MULTIPLE MAN [2018] #1

Jamie Madrox was a third-rate Marvel character until Peter David masterfully explored his potential in X-FACTOR throughout the 90’s and 00’s. If this mini-doesn’t build on those shenanigans, it’s likely a waste of time. “MATTHEW ROSENBERG and ANDY MACDONALD BRING MULTIPLE MAN BACK FROM THE DEAD…SORT OF…MAYBE? A handful of people’s favorite X-Man – Jamie Madrox – was alive for a while. Then he was dead. Now he’s not. But he will be again if he doesn’t kill himself trying to make sure he doesn’t die. It makes sense when you read it. Trust us. In his fight to not die, Jamie has stumbled across a threat even greater than his own death, but fixing it might make it worse. […]

STELLAR [2018] #1

Here’s an exciting science fantasy wonder that looks like it’s from Heavy Metal. Definitely something to check out. “Stellar was taken as a child and transformed into the ultimate weapon, one that would end an intergalactic war. She succeeded…at everything except finding peace. Reduced to a bounty hunter, she scours the worlds she’s broken, searching for redemption. But there are other weapons loose in the galaxy, who just can’t leave the war behind them. JOSEPH KEATINGE (GLORY, SHUTTER) and legendary artist BRET BLEVINS (New Mutants, Sleepwalker) will transport you to another dimension, filled with crashed spaceships, fast-talking aliens, and ageless wonders.” Buy It Now Related shopping tags: SCI-FI

JUSTICE LEAGUE [2018] #1

Justice League relaunch! Looks more cosmic-focused with requisite team drama, of course. “‘THE TOTALITY’ part one. A brand-new era begins here. Comics legends Scott Snyder and Jim Cheung launch the Justice League into a cosmos-shaking mystery that will draw out their most terrible foes…in ways our heroes couldn’t possibly imagine. In this debut issue, Martian Manhunter struggles to protect the team from an incoming threat that will shatter the world as they know it, while a familiar face strikes out on a dark path…” Buy It Now Related shopping tags: JUSTICE LEAGUE
